Establish A Monday Morning Reset Routine

Monday mornings can either be daunting or energizing to a mom. I happen to be in the camp of “I LOVE Monday mornings”. I want to challenge you in this post to view Monday as a day when you set up your week for success by instituting a Monday morning reset.

If you are among the moms who find Monday mornings daunting, I’ve got ideas and a system you can put into place to help you feel less daunted. For the “I love Monday morning” moms let’s see if we can make it even better!
A Monday morning reset routine can be the impetus for a great week ahead. It can help set the tone for a productive week and kickstart a fantastic week ahead.
Monday Morning Reset

Set Yourself Up For Success
If you are a mom with young children at home, Sunday evening is a great time to get the ball rolling for your Monday morning reset. You can pack backpacks, plan meals for the week, create a grocery list, make lunches for the next day, lay out clothes, etc.
Checking these off your list on Sunday evening equips you with a jumpstart to your Monday morning reset.
Where do you begin?
It’s coffee and a candle for me. I like to get my coffee, light the candle on my island, and fill my water bottle. You can discover why a candle is an integral part of my routine from my post How to Awaken Your Child’s Senses At Home
Creating a cozy atmosphere in my home provides warmth and beauty and sets the mood for a beautiful day.

Start Small
Get dressed, put on a little mascara and lip gloss, and make your bed. Hear me out on this. I understand that rolling out of bed, throwing on sweats, and putting your hair up in a ponytail seems like the easier option.

However, these three little things will help you start your day feeling accomplished and ready to face the day. Feeling accomplished changes your mindset and sets you up to win the day!
Admiral William H. McRaven wrote this in his book Make Your Bed, “If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed.” This simple act sets the tone for the day and reinforces the importance of accomplishing small tasks.

Try it for one week! It could change your life. And think about how nice it will feel to crawl into a made bed at the end of the day!
This is not only a Monday morning suggestion. I recommend you do this every day.

Begin With Weekly Planning
- Look over your calendar.
- Clear your desk or workspace. Dispose of any unwanted paperwork. Clear your emails. A clear desk gives you room to work, leading you to do your work more efficiently.
- Do some goal-setting for the week (Don’t go crazy). Keep your list achievable and realistic. At the end of the week, you will feel better simply by accomplishing a few goals rather than feeling defeated because you didn’t get to most of your list. It’s all about mindset.
The Quick Tidy
Take a few minutes and do a quick tidy. Don’t get too deep into the cleaning. Make a plan and stick with it. Let me warn you, you can get sucked in and get distracted easily by other cleaning that needs to be done.
If this starts to happen, plan another time to get to the deeper decluttering and cleaning completed and move on. For help on this, you can go to these posts:

Back to the Monday morning reset 😊:
- Clean out the sink. Empty the sink, scrub, and shine if it is stainless.
- Clean out the refrigerator of expired or unwanted food. Give the shelves in your fridge a quick wipe-down. I have found that if I have a dedicated day of the week to do this, I can maintain my refrigerator.
- Wipe counters. I have a thing for clean counters. I like to clean them with soap and water and then shine them with a non-toxic counter spray. Clean countertops give me a clear mind. A clear mind makes me more productive.
- Shine appliances. For stainless steel, wipe them down with stainless wipes. Give the top of your stove a good wipe down.
- Tidy couches, pillows, and blankets.
- Put in a load of laundry. I’m a one-load-a-day girl. I highly encourage you to try this method. If you have 4 or more children at home, it could be two loads a day, but you get the gist. Not having the laundry room and hampers overflowing with dirty clothes keeps you and your family more sane throughout the week. It allows you and your family to locate wanted clothes and eliminates friction caused by chaotic moments of looking for something you can’t find, like underwear, socks, and sports uniforms…you get the gist.
- Vacuum/sweep. A clean floor makes me feel like the whole house is clean. I’ve got a cordless vacuum for those quick jobs and a Dyson for the more serious vacuuming.
- Tidy the drop zone in your home. You all know there is a place where your family just drops everything. THIS IS KEY. Maintaining a tidy and organized drop zone will help you maintain your sanity as you keep your children, your home, and your life organized.
Quiet Time
For me, quiet time consists of sitting with my Bible, praying, and being still. Even if all you can afford is 15 minutes and a short devotional book, this will set you up for a successful day and week.

Two books I recommend for that:
Savor: A 365 Day Devotional For Living Abundantly Where You Are, As You Are
Beholding & Becoming: The Art of Everyday Worship
Fuel Your Body With A Good Breakfast
It’s important to fuel your body. Get 30-40 grams of protein and drink water to start your day strong.

Move Your Body
Take a quick walk, give your body a 15-minute stretch, or get in a good workout if you have time. I don’t like to start my Mondays with a big workout. It detracts me from getting things in order.
I will typically fit in a walk later in the day on Monday. A quick walk or stretch in the morning during your Monday morning reset will get your blood pumping and kick your adrenaline in gear.
Avoid Distractions
It’s easy to get sucked into your phone (speaking from experience 🙋♀️). Put it away and keep your nose to the grindstone. Turn off notifications if necessary.
Your Monday Morning Reset Routine List
In Conclusion
When you set your mind to a Monday morning reset, you are setting your week up for success. I’ve given you some ideas, but you don’t have to do my plan.
Make a plan that works for you. Call it your Monday morning reset and stick to it. You will be quite surprised at the satisfaction you experience when you put a plan in place and then accomplish it.
I purposefully put aside a couple of hours on Monday morning to do this. You may not have that much time. Perhaps you only have an hour. Put that plan in place and stick to it.
If your Monday morning is already occupied on the calendar, don’t stress. Move your reset to Tuesday. I had to do that very thing this week!
Having a Monday morning reset is a win-win for your entire family. You can even get them in on it if they have the capacity, depending on their age and schedule.
Perhaps on Monday morning, your children can bring their laundry to the laundry room to help you accomplish your goal of putting in a load of laundry.
A clean and organized workspace can help you focus better, have more motivation, accomplish more, and cross off your to-do list more rapidly.
As you look to be a more intentional mom, something like a Monday morning reset will help you on your intentional motherhood journey.
A routine like a Monday morning reset provides a sense of stability, security, and a sense of rhythm in your home. You will feel more at peace throughout your week, and so will your family. When you exude less anxiety, your children will have less anxiety.
Have I convinced you to put this plan into action? It will change your week and even your life ❤️
Blessings and love,
Kim 💗
