Vintage Christmas Home Inspiration

When I picture a vintage Christmas home, my mind drifts to a world wrapped in nostalgia—the kind captured in classic films like It’s a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, and White Christmas.
A time when holiday movies were steeped in innocence, joy, and the simple magic of the season.
There’s something so heartwarming about the charm of yesteryear—the soft glow of old-fashioned lights, the warmth of well-loved ornaments, and the cozy scenes that feel like a Norman Rockwell painting brought to life.
What if we went back even further to a time when Pride and Prejudice and Little House On The Prairie were written? The further back in time we go, especially here in America’s history, we come to an even simpler way of life.
In this post, we’ll take a stroll down memory lane as I share how you can bring that timeless, vintage Christmas feel into your own home this year—creating a space that feels both magical and meaningful.
Simpler Years

There’s something deeply comforting about the warm feelings these moments from the past stir in me. If I’m being honest, there are days when I find myself longing for the simplicity of years gone by. A part of me wishes I could step back in time and soak in the slower pace and old-fashioned charm.
Now, I know those days weren’t without their challenges—I’m not looking at the past through rose-colored glasses. But even still, it all feels more manageable… more grounded.
I think that’s where my love for vintage Christmas decor is rooted. It reflects my longing for a simpler, more intentional way of life—one that embraces tradition, nostalgia, and the beauty of slowing down.
I’m naturally drawn to vintage pieces—like a magnet, really. I’m not even sure I can fully explain why, but there’s something about them that pulls me in. I love the hunt, the history, and the warmth they bring into our home.
Incorporating vintage elements gives our space a cozy, lived-in feeling that I’ve always cherished. Creating a warm and welcoming home is done through soft candlelight, warm lighting, and most importantly, a whole lot of love.
Christmas Today
Each year as December approaches, I begin to dream about our vintage Christmas decor and what it will look like. I tend to switch it up a little every year by removing some things and adding new.
If you know me at all, you know this is the creative side of me I love to utilize.

Vintage Christmas Home
White Lights
Let’s talk lights first! I know there is a big debate over colored and white lights. For us, it has always been white. White lights feel like home. It is what we’ve always done, so I guess you can say it’s tradition!
That being said, I do love colored lights as well. I love walking into a home that is festive and bright with colored lights. As with all things decor, you do what feels best to you! That is what will bring you and your family joy.
Muted Decor
For our Christmas decor over the years, we have had years of bright reds and greens and traditional Christmas colors scattered throughout our home. But for the past couple of years, I’ve leaned more towards a more muted Christmas decor.

Colors of green, gold/brass, wood, orange (dried orange slices), and very tiny pops of red here and there make up the bulk of our decor.
Evergreen always plays a big role in our Christmas decor. From the Christmas tree to the mantle to wreaths to tiny trees around our home. Our vintage Christmas home wouldn’t be the same without evergreen.

Vintage Christmas Home Decor
Let’s delve into what a vintage Christmas home might consist of. Over the past few years, I have had a love of vintage books. Last year, I brought it into our Christmas decor.
In 2022, we collected brass candlesticks for our daughter’s wedding. As you probably guessed, brass candlesticks had their first appearance in our vintage Christmas home decor last year.
Brass candlesticks lost their way for a few years in the world of home decor. Do you remember when no one wanted brass in their homes anymore?

Last year, dried orange slices were an addition to our vintage Christmas decor. I dried orange slices (very easy to do), made a garland with twine, and hung it in various places. You can find instructions to make them in another Christmas post 8 Components of a Cozy Christmas Home.
They were the cutest little ornaments on one of our small trees, and we added them in bowls with pine cones and evergreens. I love it so much, and the best part is it costs next to nothing, which makes it budget-friendly too!

Vintage Christmas Trees
For our main tree, we added something new this year. I made bows out of off-white velvet ribbon and placed them on our Christmas tree.
I cannot believe how much it changes the look of our tree. I also cannot believe how inexpensive it was to buy! It adds the perfect vintage touch to our tree.
Before adding the bows, we placed a simple wood ball garland-only 2 strands, and gave it a droopy look. After that was complete, the family ornaments we’ve collected throughout the past 35 years were placed on the branches.
I think I say this every year, but this is our best tree to date! Each of these additions to our Christmas decor this year has provided our home with that vintage feeling and takes me back to a world of simplicity.

Next to our fireplace, you will find a vintage sled that I thrifted just a couple of months ago at a barn sale in Lancaster, PA. It’s the perfect addition and provides character and charm to the room.

In our dining room, this year we have a smaller flocked tree. My opinion on flocked trees is mixed because while I love them, they are a BIG mess. Nonetheless, it does look very pretty this year!

I added a simple gold ribbon and gold ornaments. The tree sits on top of an old flyer sled that we thrifted years ago. A white velvet tree skirt is gathered around the base of the tree.
I had some older silver ball garland and cut it into about 8-inch pieces and draped it like tinsel on the tree. Thank you, Instagram, for the idea!! We don’t do tinsel around here, but I have an affection toward it because we did it every year growing up.
Nativity Scenes
One of my favorite things to add to our Christmas decor is the nativity scenes placed throughout our home. Bringing the true meaning of Christmas into our decor is an absolute must.
Decorate To Celebrate
As we prepare to celebrate Christmas—the most incredible gift ever given—let’s remember that all the beauty and decor we add to our homes is ultimately a reflection of our joy in celebrating Him.
Decorating isn’t just about making things pretty. It’s about creating a space that feels warm, welcoming, and filled with love—something your whole family will feel and cherish.
This season, I’ve been reading through the book of Luke—one chapter a day starting on December 1. With 24 chapters, it’s the perfect way to walk through the life and ministry of Jesus leading up to Christmas Eve.
Each day helps center my heart on the true meaning of the season. What better way to prepare room for Christ than by soaking in His Word?
Simplify
As moms, it is easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle and to-dos of the Christmas season. Perhaps you must shorten that to-do list, simplify, and enjoy the Christmas season.
You can also keep your Christmas decor simple to help ease the visual space in your mind.
A Few Final Words About a Vintage Christmas
I want to leave you with these final thoughts.
First, making your home special during the holidays plays a significant role in your endeavors to be intentional. It’s not about the perfect home or what anyone else thinks.
It should never be about that. It’s about the love you have for Jesus and your family. It’s about creating memories in their hearts to last them a lifetime. It’s about creating a home they love and always want to come home to.
Second, making Jesus the focus of your celebrations is extremely important as you seek to raise children who love God.
Show your children what it means to love others by baking cookies or bread for your neighbors, by serving your community, or by serving at your church. Be an example of Jesus and His love. Make Christmas about others, not about your children.
And lastly, making your home merry and bright does not have to cost a lot of money. Forage some greens from outside and place them around your home. Gather pine cones and give them a little white paint to make them appear snow-covered.
Bake orange slices and string them on twine. Buy a few boxes of twinkle lights and hang them around your windows. Nothing says Christmas more than twinkle lights. And last but not least, grab an inexpensive nativity scene and make it the center of your decor.
I want to leave you with this reminder to slow down, be still, stare at the lights, read about Jesus, and let His love flow from you into your beautiful family. That is what Christmas is all about.
May God bless you and your family this Christmas season, and may you add a little vintage Christmas to your home this year!
With an abundance of love~Kim
