Fall Home Decor: Simple But Impactful

Seasonal Decor

Share with a friend!

It’s Fall, and it’s time to pull out the fall home decor! Summer is my favorite season, but I always love how it’s followed by Fall! This year, I’m particularly excited for some cooler temps.

I LOVE to decorate for Fall. I find it hard to be patient as I wait for the right time. However, I make myself wait, particularly when it comes to putting out my Fall home decor and making my mum purchases.

Time To Decorate For Fall

Historically, I begin to burn my pumpkin-scented candles in August…I know a bit early right? But I can’t help it. I love that scent so much. I would burn it all year long, but then I’m afraid it would lose its punch for fall.

On August 24th, the pumpkin cream cold brew made its debut at Starbucks. Of course, I’ve enjoyed about ten already. No wonder I gain weight every Fall…lol.

September 21st was the day for me to get out Fall decor this year.

My post, How to Transition Your Home for the Holidays (And Not Lose Your Mind), is dedicated to the fact that I like to start with a clean slate. My first step is to always do a good cleaning before making decor changes.

This time of year, I put away anything that has a summer vibe to it to clear the way for all things Fall.

Fall Home Decor

While I love fall decor, I don’t want my home to look like it threw up Fall, if you know what I mean 😜. I like to make it noticeable and special, but not overpower any room.

As for traditional Halloween fare, such as bats, ghosts, or witches, that is not my kind of fall decor. I think it’s super cute and enjoy the fun style of Liz Marie Galvan from Instagram. She always makes it look amazing.

I’m a pumpkin, leaves, candles, cozy blankets, and fall pillows kind of girl. I’ve switched up my style of pumpkins over the years, but it’s still always about the pumpkins for me.

Mantle-Vintage Books

I am a huge fan of vintage books and love to scatter them throughout our home. They are inexpensive to find at thrift stores and Goodwill. I try not to pay more than 2-5 dollars per book.

Vintage books work with every season, but for Fall, they add the warmth and character I long for in our home. I’ve got a couple of books that are the perfect vintage orange and look great mixed in with our Fall decor.

Mantle-Garland

For our mantle, garland plays a significant role in my seasonal decor. I have several different garlands, one or two for each season.

Fall Home Decor

It provides our mantle a little somethin’ somethin’, especially since our TV is over our mantle. Not my favorite place, but the only place for it in our current family room.

This year I’ve added layers of garland by adding two. They are both pumpkins, but one is flat and the other is two-dimensional and has some texture.

You might want to consider adding garland to your fall decor repertoire. Garland is not just for Christmas anymore!

Mantle-Candlesticks

On one side of the mantle are two candlesticks with an olive green candle. Love this green! On the opposite side of the TV is a wooden pumpkin I picked up years ago that adds warmth to the room.

Mantle-Screensaver

I would be remiss if I left out the screensaver from YouTube TV. There are so many to choose from. I usually like to use the word vintage in my search, and I love the vibe and options there are to choose from.

Table Fall Home Decor

This pedestal table in our family room is one of my favorite free makeovers to date. Pedestal Table Makeover: From Trash-to-Treasure Series

Fall Home Decor

For this Fall, I’ve added a black and white woven table runner with a vintage basket I picked up at a barn sale this past summer.

In our yard, we have a variety of Limelight and Annabelle hydrangeas. They are stunning for the summer and bring us so much joy as we hang out in our yard. In the fall, the Limelights turn a gorgeous rose and the Annabelles turn a bright green.

I love to cut and bring them indoors to add texture and color to our home for the Fall.

Fall Home Decor

The best thing about bringing them inside, aside from the beautiful colors, is that they are free!! If you don’t have them in your yard, find someone who does and ask them if you can cut a few.

Coffee Table

This simple round coffee table is embellished with my favorite home decor books and a wooden pumpkin placed on top of the books.

This is a Home Goods find from a few years ago. I’ve also added a white vintage milk glass vase full of my Annabelle hydrangeas. The green from the hydrangeas pops in this room.

Fall Home Decor

Drying out hydrangeas is so easy. You cut them and place them in the vessel you want. They will dry naturally. You can spray them with a floral protectant to keep them from shedding but I find they do just fine without it.

Couches

Neutral-color pillows, including one with a pumpkin on it, and cozy blankets adorn our couches. On the shelf behind the couch, you will find a wire basket of pumpkins I picked up in the Dollar Spot at Target a few years ago. They are a velvety material of soft muted fall colors.

Fall Home Decor

These furry throws are amazing. The ivory-colored one was given to me by a dear friend last spring. Faux Fur Throw. Hubby loved it so much, and when I wasn’t using it, he was. So for his birthda,y I bought him one in charcoal. Now we can both be cozy.

Kitchen Fall Decor

I keep the fall decor somewhat simple in the kitchen. It’s time to put away the summer coffee mugs and bring out the fall ones.

Hubby laughs at my mug obsession, but I promise you, drinking my coffee out of an adorable mug makes me happy. And what a wonderful way to start each day, right?

Fall Home Decor

I’m always on the hunt for coffee mugs, but the majority of these are from Home Goods, Hobby Lobby, and Target.

Fall Home Decor

A few little pumpkins on my shelves and atop my farmhouse hutch are the perfect complement to our kitchen during the fall. This hutch is featured in my post Modern Farmhouse Hutch Makeover. Check out the post to get the full story!

On the island, I added a vintage wooden crate that I love to bring out this time of year. This year I placed a rusted wrought iron pumpkin candle holder that has been a part of our fall home decor for years. This is where my pumpkin-scented candles go for the season.

Fall Home Decor

New to the vignette are vintage-looking pears I saw on Liz Marie Galvan’s Instagram. They were fairly inexpensive on Amazon, and I love them. I placed the pears in a wooden bowl inside the crate alongside the wrought iron pumpkin.

Fall Home Decor

My favorite find for this year is a tree with fall leaves. The tree is in a cement pot. It’s so cute and I have it placed next to the hutch on the floor. It’s such a sweet Fall addition to our kitchen.

You can save yourself money by grabbing a branch with colored leaves on it from outside and popping it in a vase for the fall. It’s a lovely touch to any home.

Gold touches around our home add that warmth of Fall, so I added gold dish towels this year. There you have it! The kitchen is decorated for Fall.

Dining Room Fall Decor

Table

In the dining room, on our dining table you will find a long skinny wooden bowl that I picked up at Home Goods last year. It moves around to many places in our home, but currently sits on my dining room table.

Fall Home Decor

Ironically, when at Home Goods, I picked it up and put it back three times before I made the final decision to bring it home (that was the year I decided I was only thrifting home decor items) I caved and bought it because it looked vintage.

I’m so glad I did. I added votive candles and velvet pumpkins with little acorns a friend gifted me last year. It’s a sweet touch of fall for our dining room.

On the bench above (my favorite flea market find of all time), I’ve lined up some vintage books (I told you I have them in every room) and have a large green glass vase with vintage-looking fall leaves.

Fall Home Decor

On the back wall are a pumpkin patch sign, a basketful of Annabelle hydrangeas, and some sweet gray pumpkins. They are simple touches but pack a punch and I love how all the colors flow together in that room.

Budget-Friendly & Simple Fall Decor

Like I said earlier, I keep it simple and budget-friendly. The color palette in our home is neutral so adding pops of color around in the Fall packs a punch.

If you have a more colorful palette in your home, try adding some neutrals to offset it. Either way works great. But in the end, do what you love! One of my favorite posts is How to be Confident in Your Home Decor Style. As long as you love it that is all that matters!

Do It For Your Family

Decorating my home for the seasons and holidays is something I do for my family. My heart’s desire is to make every season and holiday a special memory for them. Read more about this in 6 Reasons to Add Seasonal Decor To Your Home

Can I encourage you to make your home a place filled with good feelings that provide them with lasting memories? This is one of the many ways to be an intentional mama.

Fall Home Decor

I love the meaning and purpose behind adding Fall decor to our home. It makes it so much more special than just decorating for the sake of decorating.

I am not going to lie, though, while I do it for my family, I do it for me, too. It makes me happy to bring the seasons into our home, especially Fall.

When I am surrounded by reminders of God’s beauty and provision, this sets the tone for my day. Bringing the outside in is energizing and soothing to me.

Have Your Kids Help With Fall Decor

I was not the greatest at letting my children help me decorate when they were little, if I’m being honest. If I could change that, I would, but if you have little ones, let them help you.

It could be as simple as having them place your Fall decor in its place. Or even doing a project with them that includes making a craft to add to your decor.

Perhaps you could make a leaf garland for your mantle or leaves for your fridge. We didn’t have Pinterest back then, but you do! Take full advantage of Pinterest ideas!

God’s Provision

Fall is a great time to be reminded of God’s provision for us as we head into harvest. He has provided us with an abundance of food through his creation. It’s a great time to be mindful of that and remind your children of all he’s done for them.

I hope you enjoyed this tour of our home decor and how we decorate for Fall. As a reminder, you don’t have to spend a lot of money, and you don’t have to go overboard. Most importantly, decorating for Fall is all about making your family feel special and loved.

Go load up on those pumpkins and fall home decor, and have fun adding it to your home.

Much Love,

Kim 🧡
