Simple Farmhouse Fall Décor

What is your favorite season? That question always puts me in a bit of a quandary. I would have to say, for me, it’s a toss-up between summer and fall. I am a warm-weather girl so you see my quandary.
That being said, if you ask me right now in October I would definitely say fall. In this post, you will find ways to add simple farmhouse fall decor to your home for this warm and cozy season.

Fall presents with cooler days, pumpkin-scented candles, football games, cozy sweatshirts and sweaters, and the feeling of a fresh start. These things along with colorful mums and the leaves turning are all beautiful signs of the season.
Let’s start with pumpkins. I mean seriously. Pumpkins are the ultimate sign of fall if you ask me. These beautifully colored round balls with stems are the cutest. And how about the new fun varieties of pumpkins including Heirloom pumpkins like Cinderella and Fairytale and pumpkins with warts? I love the beautiful colors of blue and white and green.

Today, I invite you to come with me on a tour of our home where you will find simple touches of fall that bring that wonderful cozy fall feeling that makes a house a home.

Family Room Fall Decor
Let’s start in the family room. Fall has a way of showing off in this room. Why you ask? Simple, the walls, fireplace, and most of the furniture are white. I love the contrast! Strategically placing pumpkins in varying colors, shapes, and textures around the room adds a festive fall feeling. It’s kinda crazy because although they are different in shape, size, and color they work in harmony together.

My style has somewhat evolved over the years. I have to say, my decor style used to be much more matchy-matchy, but not so much anymore. I absolutely love more variety and how it brings visual interest to a room. Keeping colors similar but adding variety in texture and patterns is so fun.

Pumpkins along with added touches of fall foliage, a pumpkin farm sign, cozy neutral textured pillows, a warm knitted blanket in a buttery shade of caramel, and candles are some fun additions to add fall to this room.
There is even an orange book under the pumpkin on the industrial-looking shelves that adds a touch of color. I found this sweet and simple pumpkin garland draped from the mantle at Hobby Lobby and it is the perfect subtle touch of whimsy.
I recognize this may sound like a lot, but I promise you, it really isn’t. Given the neutral coloring of a lot of my fall decor, it tones down the excessiveness and prohibits the possibility of overdoing it. It is just enough to bring fall to life but not too much to overtake the room.

Kitchen Fall Decor
Let’s look at the kitchen and how fall presents itself in this room. You can see more about my kitchen in my post, Modern Farmhouse Kitchen Makeover. It took us six years to get it exactly how we wanted it but we finally did it.

For our fall decor, in our kitchen, you will find varying colors of pumpkins around the room. Little white, light green and gray pumpkins with gold stems make a vignette on the white shelves (the gold stems coordinate with wood tones found in our kitchen and our new kitchen pulls and handles).
There is always a fall candle, usually spiced pumpkin or white pumpkin, on my island (there is, by the way, always a candle burning on my island throughout the year). Hanging from the oven, a gold dishtowel adds a bright pop of fall color.

On the hutch, you will find varying white pumpkins, a wood dough bowl with faux fall stems and an electric candle, and a glass pumpkin filled with candy corn. All of these things together bring the beautiful colors of fall into our kitchen.

As we saw in the family room, the fall colors pop in our white kitchen and are offset by the natural wood tones. If you don’t have a lot of white in your home, your touches of fall may be more neutral to work with your style. Don’t be afraid to be creative with your colors. Be brave and add what feels like fall to you.

Dining Room Fall Decor
My dining room might be my favorite room for fall right now. Fall is displayed in mostly neutral colors in this room. Textures (table runner and carved wood bowl), pumpkins, greens, faux fall stems, and a pumpkin farm sign all contribute to the ambiance and seasonal feel of the room.

In the dining room, our gallery wall of love takes center stage. I switched out one of the pieces to add a picture of an old truck with apple stems. The colors are perfect for this room. Check out my post How to Create a Gallery Wall of Love to see how this wall came to being and how you can create your very own gallery wall. As I said, the fall touches are subtle in this room but just enough to give you that cozy fall feeling.

The vintage schoolhouse bench adorned with faux fall stems in a glass vase, a thrifted picture with fall colors, a pumpkin farm sign, and a hanging pumpkin garland all add to the feeling of fall in our dining room. In my post Thrifting: How to Thrift and What to Look For you can get the story behind this thrifted picture and many more thrifted finds.
I absolutely love having family and friends gather around this table. A couple of years ago we changed this room from a living room we RARELY used to a bigger dining room. We also made our old dining room into an office for me.
This arrangement works so much better for our needs, especially since we have a big family! BEST. DECISION. EVER. Side note, don’t be afraid to get creative with your spaces in your home. You can use your home in whatever way you choose. You do you and use it for what works best for your family.

Foyer Fall Decor
Lastly, the foyer to our home has been fallified just a bit. I considered painting this jack-o-lantern white but I am still undecided… so for now it will stay tin.
I felt compelled to add touches of simple farmhouse fall decor to this area because I want everyone who enters our home to encounter a warm feeling of the changing seasons. My foyer is not big but I do my best to make it feel special. After all, it is the first impression of our home and I want to create a welcoming area that brings warmth and joy to everyone who enters.

Keep it Simple
It gives me joy to add simple seasonal decor throughout every season, but fall is particularly fun. I don’t go overboard on “holiday decor” and I don’t change everything out for every single little holiday to be sure. However, decorating for certain holidays is festive and fun and allows for a fresh new look for a new season.

If you know me, you know I love to rearrange and take what I already have and use it to refresh a new space. I’ve been doing this since I was a teenager. It brought me so much joy and satisfaction then and it still does today. When a new season or holiday approaches it is the perfect opportunity to get my creative juices flowing and have fun bringing new life to our home!

As the season winds down, I like to clear out, clean, and simplify first. It is then that I begin to add decor for the new season. Just adding seasonal decor to your everyday decor can be a bit much and make your home seem cluttered. I simply take the seasonal decor out of the bins and put the regular decor in them until the season is over and then switch it back.
I have been rearranging, refreshing, and reusing in our home for the past 33 years. The change in season is the perfect opportunity to refresh and make your home feel special.

Did I mention I like to clean? With each new season, I find it very gratifying to clean and freshen up our home. It gives me peace and makes me feel good about our home. Sometimes this takes me a few days and in the transition, things can get messy but I’m always so happy when it’s done. I love it when my family notices and comments, but even when they don’t I feel good about our home and the memories I’m creating for them.

Thanks for coming along on this tour of the simple farmhouse fall decor in our home! I hope you have found some inspiration to help you move your home into a new season. But more importantly, my prayer is that you focus on making your home a warm, cozy, loving environment where your family feels loved and loves to be, now, and for years to come.
Happy fall Ya’ll!! Much Love!
Kim~💗
